Georgia's Gold Coast and Savannah

In our travel plan from Florida to Charleston, SC we decided to spend some time on the way in Georgia. This is our 1st trip to Georgia and we decided to explore the Golden Isles  and  Savannah.

We spent 4 nights at Coastal RV resort just outside of Brunswick, GA.  Close to all the islands and to historic Brunswick. A very nice resort to linger for a bit.

We just visited the island of St. Simons but there is also Jekyll Island, Sea Island and Little St. Simons. St. Simons has a nice small village along the water with a historic lighthouse, pier, shops and an assortment of small restaurants.

SAVANNAH, GA

Savannah was everything I imagined and more.

There is a lot of southern history here and if you are a fan as I am of the book by John Berendt, Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil, you will have another reason to visit Savannah. The Southern Gothic book, known simply as “The Book,” is based on true events surrounding antiques dealer Jim Williams and the murder of Danny Hansford in Savannah. Even though there are tours to the famous landmarks many can be visited on your own.

Savannah is known for its numerous squares, there are 22 of them.

You don't want to miss a walk through Forsyth Park.

And there are churches.

We were able to get an early reservation for dinner at The Olde Pink House.

And now a little about where we stayed for our 2 nights in Savannah.
The closest RV park to Savannah is Red Gate Campground. More expensive then some of the other campgrounds in the area but being close to Savannah was important to us and this place was charming. It is a farm with animals, sites are full hook-up and some are spaced around a grassy field. If the full hook-up sites are full they have a dry camping area. The site we had was easy to get in and out of but had little shade, there are sites in the back area that have more shade but are smaller and would have been hard for us to get our big rig back to. The only negatives were the dusty roads within the campground and there was some train noise but that didn't bother us since we have good sound proofing in our RV. Others may find the train noise to be a problem.

Loved our trip to the south, no post on our time in Charleston, SC. We were there to see friends in Mount Pleasant and since we had been to Charleston before we didn't spend a lot of our time sightseeing on this trip.
